The chart is calculated in the browser with Astronomy Engine. The list of
cities and time zones comes from GeoNames, country names in the
non-Russian lists from Unicode CLDR, simplified Chinese characters from
Unicode Unihan. Their licenses follow.

2. GeoNames

Cities with a population over 15,000 and capitals (cities15000), country
and region names (countryInfo, admin1CodesASCII), their names in the site
languages — Russian, English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Chinese
(alternateNamesV2) and IANA time zones, from the dump of 14 October 2026.

Changes: only the name (in the file's language and in Latin), country,
region, time zone and population (rounded to thousands) are kept;
Europe/Kyiv is written as Europe/Kiev for older browsers. In the
non-Russian files country names come from Unicode CLDR (see 3), Chinese
names are converted to simplified characters with Unihan (see 3), source
artefacts such as "A or B", a trailing apostrophe and, in Chinese, a
trailing country or state ("，…", "（…）") are removed. The names of some
places were corrected by hand (scripts/hd-city-overrides.tsv).

Country names in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese and Chinese
come from the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR 48.0, as shipped
with ICU 78.2 in Node.js 22). Traditional-to-simplified character variants
for Chinese names (kSimplifiedVariant) come from the Unicode Han Database
(Unihan, Unicode 18.0.0, Unihan_Variants.txt of 31 July 2026). Licensed
